École doctorale n°265 Langues, littératures et sociétés du monde brings together 14 research units, including 6 host teams and 8 Unités Mixtes de Recherche (UMR). It supervises the theses of nearly 300 doctoral students in the various units, directed by over 100 teachers and HDR researchers. Its mission is to lead the scientific life of the establishment within the framework of doctoral studies, and to ensure the scientific, pedagogical and administrative follow-up of students enrolled in their thesis.
It is responsible for the quality of the doctoral work carried out.

Role and missions
Role and missions
The doctoral school's mission is to:
- ensure that the student submits an innovative and feasible research topic, under the direction of a teacher qualified to direct research and competent in the chosen subject, when registering for a thesis;
- allocate the doctoral contracts it has available to candidates each year;
- ensure that doctoral students' research projects are in line with the host unit's research axes, as part of a multi-disciplinary approach, well-informed of the state of the scientific field under study;
- supervise their work (annual registration and re-registration procedures; periodic review of progress and quality of work; organization of thesis mid-term; establishment of defense juries);
- foster scientific exchanges between doctoral students and between doctoral students and teacher-researchers, notably through doctoral days, notably within the framework of the Sorbonne Paris Cité University,
- encourage the establishment of co-directions and cotutelles and encourage doctoral students to multiply opportunities for external and more broadly European and international contacts;
- provide doctoral students with training useful to their research and professional projects;
- help PhD students finance the field missions their research requires, and speak at scientific meetings to present the progress and results of their work;
- accompany doctoral students in the preparation of their subsequent career path.

Steering and organization
École doctorale n°265 Langues, littératures et sociétés du monde is headed by a Director, assisted by an Executive Committee and an Advisory Board comprising research unit directors, two staff representatives, doctoral students' representatives, and external personalities (scientists and representatives of the socio-economic world). Major decisions are taken by the Council, while day-to-day management and preparatory work for Council decisions is carried out by the Bureau.

Doctoral School Council
The Doctoral School Council is responsible for developing and implementing the scientific and pedagogical orientations of the Doctoral School. In particular, it deliberates on applications for admission to doctoral studies, and on the awarding of doctoral contracts and other funding.
The Board comprises twenty-six members, fourteen of whom are representatives of the École Doctorale.
The Board comprises twenty-six members, fourteen of whom are representatives of the institutions, research units or teams concerned. It also includes two representatives of engineers, administrative, technical and service staff.
The other half is made up of doctoral students belonging to the Doctoral School, elected by their peers; it is completed by members from outside the Doctoral School, chosen in equal parts from French and foreign personalities with competence in the scientific fields concerned, on the one hand, and in the industrial and socio-economic sectors concerned, on the other.
